Rothsay senior Grace Lider plans on going to M State in Fergus Falls to get her RN in the nursing program, then transferring to obtain her BSN degree.  She will play both volleyball and basketball for the lady Spartans.

“I have made many relationships throughout the years with my coaches and teammates,” noted Lider.  “I have also learned how to be a leader and be a teammate, which will help me throughout my life.”

Her high school volleyball coach, John Reber, shared these thoughts about Grace, “She was elected Captain of the team as both a junior and a senior which is a rare honor and well deserved.  Grace is always the first player to congratulate her teammates on great plays, and the first to give them positive encouragement when things go wrong.  During games she always give 100% effort on every play, regardless of the score.  I think her lasting impact on our program will be the influence she had on our younger players.  During practice it didn’t matter if she was teamed up with her fellow varsity players, or with 9th and 8th graders, she was the same positive player who went out of her way to connect with everyone on her team, regardless of skill level.  This season she was chosen for the Best Teammate award by her fellow players, and I think that was a very appropriate way to honor what she brings to the team.”

Lider lists any Math or Science classes as her favorites at Rothsay High School.  She was also active in 4-H Club, Student Council, Student Cabinet, Minnesota Honors Society and Youth Group.

“My favorite memory is playing at Concordia against teams we would not normally play during the season,” said Lider.  “I also enjoyed when we would stay in Minneapolis and watch some of the games of the girls’ state basketball tournament.”

Basketball Coach Anita Heier said, “Grace has been a great leader for us both on the court and off.  Her constant positive energy is so valuable in our program.  She is also a great role model in the classroom with her high standards and work ethic.  She will definitely be a great leader for our basketball program this year.”

Lider urges underclassmen to “appreciate what is going on around you, because you never know when it will be gone and how much you will miss it.”
