The Rothsay boys’ basketball team hosted Battle Lake in a Little Eight Matchup Tuesday night.  The Tigers controlled the tempo for the majority of the first half taking 36-26 lead into halftime.  The Battlers fought back getting the game to a 4 point margin, but the Tigers completed the victory by a score of 61-57.

Rothsay was led by Colby Larson with 27 and Tanner Heier had 20, Matt Danielson contributed 8.

Battle Lake was led by Brady VanErp with 16 and Kayne Cameron scored a dozen.

“We struggled to shoot the basketball well from the field and from the line in the first half (4 of 9 from the free throw line), and gave up too many baskets at the rim which led to the Tigers taking a 10 point lead at the break,” said Battle Lake Head Coach Tyler Owen. “The Battlers full court pressure in the second half made the game interesting as they were able to force several Tiger turnovers in a row. After one of those turnovers, freshman guard Jack Mekalson hit a three pointer with less than two minutes left to give us a chance to get back into the game. Unfortunately, we just couldn't knock down enough shots to take the lead.”

Rothsay (4-4) will host Hillcrest on Friday night, while Battle Lake (1-7) will play at Underwood.
