The Hillcrest volleyball team opened their home schedule Tuesday night with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-20) sweep of Little Eight Conference foe Rothsay.

“It was our home opener for all 5 teams and fun to play in front of our fans decked out in RED,” stated Hillcrest Head Coach Debi Foss.  “We came out strong and worked our game plan.  Emily Adams led us on a 7 point run in the first set to keep us going.  Sister Hope Adams led us on an 8 point run in the 2nd set.  We are doing the “little things” that are making a difference.  Each position has challenges for the week and they are doing a good job of working on those goals.  Our blocking was stronger, our defensive footwork was better as we worked to pick up their tips. We are learning from our mistakes. Our senior co- captains, Abby Heikes and Natalie Zwiers led well in numerous ways tonight. So proud of everyone!”

The Comets were led by Heikes (2 ace serves, 3 serving points, 5 kills, 5 digs), Zwiers (4 block kills, 2 kills), Hope Adams (9 kills, 1 block kill, 14/15 serving, 14 serving points, 3 ace serves), Anna Brumfield (10/12 serving, 3 ace serves, 6 serving points, 3 digs, 1 block kill, 5 kills), Henrietta Ruud (20 set assists, 3 ace serves, 5 digs), Madison Ballweg (4 digs) and Emily Adams (11 service points, 2 kills, 1 block kill).

The Comets head to Park Christian in Moorhead on Thursday, while Rothsay travels to Battle Lake for a Little Eight Conference contest.
