The Rothsay girls’ basketball team won two of their last four games last season and are hoping to build on that strong finish as they enter the 2021-22 season.  “Last year there were several young players seeing the varsity court for the first the first time,” said Head Coach Anita Heier, now in her seventh season at the helm.  “We are hoping the opportunities they got last year will help build confidence for the upcoming season.”

The Tigers lost Grace Lider (now playing at M State – Fergus Falls) to graduation, but will be counting on a solid nucleus of returning players, including senior captains Abby Honer (Post), Chase Balken (Guard) and Summer Wigdahl (Post).

“Our strength will be our post play this year,” stated Coach Heier.  “We have lots of experience and leadership in the post with Abby and Summer.  Also, Chase will be a great leader for the young guards we have in our program.”

All-Conference Guard/Post Kenadi Carlsrud (Junior), sophomore guard Elli Meyer and 8th grade guard Savannah Sullivan also have varsity experience.

“Kenadi’s versatility will be a big key for us as she will fill a role as a post as well as a guard,” noted Coach Heier.

Newcomers expected to play varsity minutes include juniors Katie Reber (Post) and Hayden Emery (Post), and sophomore Kinsey Heier (Guard).

Heier, who is being assisted by Nikki Thorson, sees Underwood as the team to beat in the Little Eight Conference, while the Rockets and Breckenridge Cowgirls are the top teams in Section 6A.
