As Head Coach Taylor Fuhs begins his sixth year with the Rothsay boys’ basketball team there is reason for optimism.  The Tigers are coming off an 8-11 season, which saw them finish 4-8 in the Little Eight Conference.  They also had two players reach the 1,000 career point milestone last season, graduate Colby Larson (Track/Field at MSUM) and current senior Tanner Heier.

Heier is joined on the roster by returning starters Sam Danielson (SR, Guard), Jett Kulack (SR, Center) and Matthew Danielson (SO, Guard).  Senior Chris Carrillo (Forward), a key reserve last season, is also back.

“Returning 5 players from our main rotation last year gives our program high expectations leading into this upcoming season,” said Coach Fuhs.  “This group has played a lot of basketball over the years and have come together to play really well as a group.  Our depth is our main concern, being inexperienced off the bench  But, we have a group of young men ready to compete for playing time and contribute in any role possible.”

Eighth-grader Karson Jensen (Guard), sophomore Carson Weiers (Forward) and sophomore Jesse Blondeau (Guard) are the top newcomers to the varsity.

“The players’ goals are to continue to improve throughout the year and play the best basketball come February and March,” added Coach Fuhs.

Chris Heier, Steve Fuhs and Isaiah Lemke will serve as assistant coaches.

Coach Fuhs closed with these comments about the competition his team will be facing, “Ashby should be the top of the Little Eight with four or five other teams very competitive.  In the North half of Section 6A, New York Mills should be the front runner, with Henning and Hillcrest close behind.”
